§ Case · FCG Finnish Consulting Group

Case FCG: Making visible how the work is really built.

Managentics models the workflows of FCG Finnish Consulting Group and turns them into machine-readable specifications that are not tied to any single platform. The work spans the whole organization and involves the entire staff; it is not an isolated pilot. The starting point is to understand and describe how the expert work is really built before anything is automated. The work is ongoing, and the specifications are in review. This page is published with FCG's permission and is updated as the programme proceeds.

    Scope
    Full organization, staff involved

    Approach
    Specification before automation, platform-independently
    Published with FCG's permission
Describing the processes alone, and the interaction around it, has already brought us significant value regardless of what gets automated later. It makes visible how our work is really built. This is not a single pilot but an organization-wide programme in which our entire staff has been involved. The change has been carried through in exemplary fashion, and the feedback has been positive.

    §1 · Starting point

Understand the work before you automate it

FCG is one of the largest engineering and consulting companies in Finland. The starting point was not a single AI pilot but an organization-wide programme: to understand and describe how the expert work is really built before anything is automated.

This requires a method that makes workflows visible and prioritizable, and specifications that do not lock the organization into one technology.

    §2 · Delivery

Specification before automation, in three stages

Managentics acts in the programme as an owner's representative for AI: modelling the workflows and describing what gets built and under what conditions, without ties to any single platform.

    1. §2.1

      Workflow modelling

The processes and workflows are described together with the staff. The interaction makes visible how the work is really built, and it produces value before anything is automated.

    2. §2.2

      Review and prioritization

The models are walked through and prioritized: where to invest first and in what order. Decisions are based on what the work actually looks like.

    3. §2.3

      Platform-independent specifications

The workflows are distilled into machine-readable specifications with clear responsibilities and review gates. The results remain the client's property, and the organization is not locked into one technology. The specifications steer a parallel technical pilot and the technology selection, supported by a technical owner's representative: the technology is chosen on the terms of the specification and the organization, not dictated by vendor lock.

The Managentics concept works in practice. The modelling is efficient, it makes prioritization visible, and we can see where to invest first.
